📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js (v20 LTS or higher)
• npm (comes with Node.js)
• Cline installed
• An Azure DevOps account with an access token

Automatic Installation via Smithery

Automatically install the Azure DevOps Server for Claude Desktop through Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @stefanskiasan/azure-devops-mcp-server --client claude

Manual Installation

1. Clone this repository:

git clone https://github.com/stefanskiasan/azure-devops-mcp-server.git
cd azure-devops-mcp-server

2. Install dependencies:

npm install

3. Build the server:

npm run build

⚠️ Important Note

The build output in the build/ directory is not included in version control. You must run the build command after cloning the repository.

Configuration

1. Obtain an Azure DevOps Personal Access Token (PAT)

1. Log in to Azure DevOps.
2. Click on your profile picture in the top - right corner.
3. Select "Security".
4. Click "New Token".
5. Provide a name for the token and enable all necessary scopes (e.g., azure - devops full).
6. Copy the generated access token.

2. Configure Cline MCP Settings

1. Open C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\YuanJia\ChatGPT - Cline - Preview\config.json.
2. Modify the content according to the following structure:

Usage

1. Select the Azure DevOps MCP server in Cline.
2. Enter the target organization and project names.
3. Start interacting with the code repository.

Verification

1. Open a command - line tool.
2. Navigate to the server directory and run:

node src/index.js

Troubleshooting

• If an authentication error occurs, check if the PAT is valid and has all the necessary scopes.
• Ensure that the target organization and project names are correct.

Development

To modify or extend the server:

1. Make changes in the src directory.
2. Run npm run watch for development.
3. Run npm run build when finished.
4. Test using the inspector tool: npm run inspector.
