A Travel Planning Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation that interacts with Google Maps and travel planning services. This server enables large language models to perform travel-related tasks, such as location search, place detail lookup, and travel time calculation.

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

Automatically install the travel planner for Claude Desktop using Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @GongRzhe/TRAVEL-PLANNER-MCP-Server --client claude

Manual Installation

# Use npx (recommended)
npx @gongrzhe/server-travelplanner-mcp

# With Google Maps API environment variable

Or install globally:

• searchPlaces

  • Search for places using the Google Places API.
  • Input:
    • query (string): Search query for the place.
    • location (optional): Latitude and longitude to bias the results.
    • radius (optional): Search radius in meters.

• getPlaceDetails

  • Get detailed information about a specific place.
  • Input:
    • placeId (string): Google Places ID to retrieve details.

• calculateRoute

  • Calculate the route between two locations.
  • Input:
    • origin (string): Starting location.
    • destination (string): Ending location.
    • mode (optional): Travel mode (driving, walking, bicycling, transit).

• getTimeZone

  • Get the time zone information for a location.
  • Input:
    • location: Latitude and longitude coordinates.
    • timestamp (optional): Timestamp for calculating the time zone.

🔧 Technical Details

Build from Source Code

1. Clone the repository.
2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

3. Build the project:

   npm run build
   

Environment Variables

• GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY (required): A Google Maps API key with the following API interfaces enabled:
  • Maps Data API
  • Geocoding API
  • Distance Matrix API
  • Street View Image API
