🚀 Discord MCP Bot - Server Component

A Discord bot server integrated with Mastra's MCP Bot Component, providing intelligent assistance and answering questions about Mastra.ai.

🚀 Quick Start

This Discord bot server works in conjunction with the Mastra MCP component to:

• Handle Discord interactions and message routing.
• Manage bot commands and permissions.
• Provide Discord-specific features such as threads and DMs.
• Interface with the Mastra component to obtain intelligent responses.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js v20.0+
• npm
• Discord bot token
• Access to the discord-mcp-bot component

Steps

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/mastra-ai/discord-mcp-server
   cd discord-mcp-server
   

2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

3. Create a .env file containing Discord credentials:

   DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN=your_discord_bot_token  
   DISCORD_CLIENT_ID=your_discord_client_id
   DISCORD_PUBLIC_KEY=your_discord_public_key
   MASTRA_URL=your_mastra_url
   

4. Run the server:

   npm start

Setting up the Discord Bot

1. Create a Discord application:

   • Visit the Discord Developer Console.
   • Click "New Application" and enter a name.
   • Go to the "Bot" tab and click "Add Bot".

2. Configure bot permissions:

   • Enable the following under "privileged Gateway Intents":
     • Message Content Intent
     • Server Members Intent
     • Direct Message Intent

3. Obtain your bot token:

   • On the bot tab, click "Reset Token" or "Copy" to get the bot token.
   • Add this token to DISCORD_BOT_TOKEN in the .env file.

4. Invite the bot to your server:

   • Go to the "OAuth2" tab, then "URL Generator".
   • Select "bot" under scopes.
   • Choose the required permissions:
     • Read Messages/View Channels
     • Send Messages
     • Read Message History
   • Copy the generated URL and open it in your browser.
   • Select your server and authorize the bot.

Implementation

The server uses:

• Discord.js for Discord integration.
• TypeScript for type safety and development experience.
• Express for building the HTTP service.

⚠️ Important Note

1. Ensure that the environment variables are correctly configured.
2. In a production environment, it is recommended to use HTTPS and a reverse proxy (such as Nginx) to protect the server.
3. Regularly update dependencies to maintain security.
