What is the MCP Host Server?
MCP Host is a middleware server that allows you to connect and manage multiple MCP servers simultaneously through a simple HTTP API. It abstracts the underlying connection details and provides you with a unified interface to access the tools and resources offered by different MCP servers. How to use the MCP Host Server?
You can interact with MCP Host through simple HTTP requests, and it will automatically manage the underlying connections with each MCP server. You only need to configure the information of the MCP servers you want to connect to, and the rest of the work will be handled by the Host.Applicable Scenarios
When you need to use the functions provided by multiple MCP servers simultaneously; when you want to simplify the interaction between the client and multiple MCP servers; when you need to manage multiple MCP connections uniformly.Main Features
Multi-server ManagementSupports connecting and managing multiple MCP servers simultaneously, and manages them uniformly through a configuration file.
Multiple Transport ModesSupports two transport modes, STDIO and SSE, to adapt to different server types.
Unified API InterfaceProvides a concise HTTP API, shielding the differences of underlying servers.
Dynamic UpdateSupports updating server configuration at runtime without restarting the service.
Advantages and Limitations
Advantages
Simplifies client development, only need to interact with the Host
Manages multiple MCP connections uniformly
Supports dynamic update of server configuration
Provides a standardized API interface
Limitations
Requires an additional Host service to run
Performance may be affected by the Host server
Some advanced functions may be restricted
How to Use
Installation and Operation
Can be run directly through npm or built and run locally.
Configure the Server
Create a mcp_servers.config.json file in the current working directory and configure the MCP servers to be connected.
