🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

uv

This project uses the uv package manager, which is a direct replacement for pip.

Installation

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone <repository-url>
   cd datagov-mcp
   

2. Install dependencies (Windows users - Do not run this script in a folder monitored by OneDrive):

   uv venv
   .venv\Scripts\activate  # Use source .venv/bin/activate on MacOS/Linux
   uv pip install -r pyproject.toml
   uv lock # Update the project's lock file
   

Usage

You can install this server on Claude Desktop and interact with it immediately by running the following command:

fastmcp install server.py

Alternatively, you can test it using the MCP Inspector:

fastmcp dev server.py

If the client/server ports are busy, you can easily free them up via nano-dev-utils:

Install it by running the following command in the terminal:

uv pip install nano-dev-utils

Run the following code in a Python environment:

from nano_dev_utils import release_ports 
pr = release_ports.PortsRelease()
pr.release_all()

Type exit() to return to the terminal. Or run the above code as a script.

• license_list - List all available licenses
• package_list - List all available packages
• package_search - Search for packages using various filters
  • Required parameters:
    • q (string): Query string
    • fq (string): Filter query
    • sort (string): Sort order
    • rows (integer): Number of rows to return
    • start (integer): Starting index
    • include_private (boolean): Include private packages
• package_show - Show detailed information about a specific package
  • Required parameters:
    • id (string): Package ID
• organization_list - List all organizations
• organization_show - Show detailed information about a specific organization
  • Required parameters:
    • id (string): Organization ID
• resource_search - Search for resources using various filters
  • Required parameters:
    • query (string): Query string
    • order_by (string): Field to sort by
    • offset (integer): Pagination offset
    • limit (integer): Pagination limit
• datastore_search - Search the data store using various filters
  • Required parameters:
    • resource_id (string): Resource ID
    • q (string): Query string
    • distinct (boolean): Return distinct results
    • plain (boolean): Return simple results
    • limit (integer): Limit the number of results
    • offset (integer): Pagination offset
    • fields (string): Fields to include in the results
    • sort (string): Sort order
    • include_total (boolean): Include the total count
    • records_format (string): Record format
• fetch_data - Fetch data from the public API based on the dataset name query
  • Required parameters:
    • dataset_name (string): Dataset name
    • limit (integer): Limit the number of results
