🚀 Model Context Protocol (MCP) Weather Server

This project implements a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI assistants (such as Claude) to interact with the National Weather Service (NWS) API. The server provides real - time weather alerts and forecasts for specified locations.

🚀 Quick Start

To start using this project, follow the steps below:

1. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/ankushmehta123/weather-mcp-server.git
2. Install dependencies: pip install -r requirements.txt
3. Configure your MCP server by adding the following content to the claude_desktop_config.json file:

4. Run the application: python main.py

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

Before running this project, make sure you have the following installed:

• Python (Recommended version 3.11.6 or higher)
• uv package manager (pip install uv)
• httpx (pip install httpx)
• fastmcp (pip install fastmcp)
• Claude desktop application

Install the uv package manager:

# For macOS and Linux.
curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

# For Windows.
powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"

Add the path to the system environment variables.

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

Run the main application: python main.py

Available API Tools

In the Claude desktop application, you will see 2 MCP tools available next to the search bar on the right.

Now you can ask Claude weather - related questions.
