A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that helps you surface the most interesting topics daily from the people you follow on Bluesky.

✨ Features

• A tool to retrieve all the posts you follow on a given day.
• Example prompts for post analysis.
• Caching of posts for a given day.

It uses the bsky-tldr npm package to (a) retrieve only the key fields of information and (b) ensure efficient retrieval of posts for the requested day.

In this MCP server, we've added more descriptive field names and combined author and post information for easy consumption by LLMs:

📦 Installation

👉 1. Configure the .env file:

Create a .env file in the project root directory and add the following content:

BLUESKY_HANDLE=Your Bluesky handle
BLUESKY_APP_PASSWORD=Your Bluesky app password
TIMEZONE_OFFSET=Timezone offset (e.g., Asia/Shanghai or UTC+8)

👉 2. Install dependencies and build:

Run the following command to install project dependencies:

npm install

Then build the project:

npm run build

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

• Start Claude Desktop and begin a new conversation.
• Enter "Retrieve yesterday's Bluesky posts" or "Retrieve Bluesky posts on April 2nd" (or any other date).

Advanced Usage

Local Development and Running

Set up a local .env file for development:

BLUESKY_HANDLE=Your Bluesky handle
BLUESKY_APP_PASSWORD=Your Bluesky app password
TIMEZONE_OFFSET=Timezone offset (e.g., Asia/Shanghai or UTC+8)

Debug using the MCP checker:

npm install
npm run build && npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector -e BLUESKY_HANDLE=XXX -e BLUESKY_APP_PASSWORD=XXX -e TIMEZONE_OFFSET=XXX node dist/index.js

Debug by viewing logs:

tail -n 20 -F ~/Library/Logs/Claude/mcp-server-bluesky-daily-mcp.log

Running Tests or Generating Coverage Reports

npm test
npm run coverage

Manual Post Retrieval

If you want to ensure that your .post.retrieve code is working correctly, run:

npm run retrieve-posts

🔧 Technical Details

Limitations

• This tool retrieves all the posts you follow on a given day. The data can become large, and you may lose posts discarded by the MCP client or LLM.
• It is recommended to retrieve only the necessary content daily.

🚀 Steps to Publish to NPM

After merging the latest code into the main branch:

1. Locally: git checkout main && git pull
2. npm version patch # or minor, or major
3. git push --follow-tags
4. GitHub will automatically publish the version.
