📦 Installation

Requirements

• Node.js (version v12 or higher)
• Claude Desktop installed

Steps

1. Clone this repository or download the claude-config-manager.js file.
2. Open the file in a text editor.
3. Update the CLAUDE_DIR value at the top to match your Claude installation path.
4. Save the file.

Basic Usage

Run the tool from the command line:

node claude-config-manager.js

Main Menu Options

1. Switch MCP Servers: Enable or disable individual MCPs.
2. Save Configuration as Preset: Save the current configuration for later use.
3. Load Preset: Load a previously saved configuration.
4. Create Custom Configuration: Select the MCPs to enable with intelligent recommendations.
5. Backup and Restore: Create a manual backup or restore from an existing backup.
6. Check/Fix Configuration File: Validate and repair the configuration file.
7. Enable All MCPs: Quickly enable all available MCPs.
8. Exit: Close the application.

Creating a Custom Configuration

The tool provides intelligent recommendations to help you select the basic essential MCPs and allows you to create a custom configuration:

• Enter specific numbers (e.g., "1,3,5") to select individual MCPs.
• Enter "r" to use the recommended basic essential MCPs.
• Enter "all" to enable all available MCPs.

Backup and Restore

The tool automatically creates backups when the configuration is changed and provides the following options:

• Create a timestamped manual backup.
• Restore from any backup.
• Manage (view/delete) existing backups.

🔧 Technical Details

The tool directly manipulates the Claude Desktop configuration file, categorizing MCPs into two types:

• mcpServers: Enabled MCPs.
• disabledMcpServers: Disabled MCPs.

This organization ensures that Claude Desktop only uses the enabled MCPs while retaining the disabled ones for future use.

💡 Usage Tip

If you encounter JSON syntax errors in the configuration file, the "Check/Fix Configuration File" option can automatically fix common issues, such as:

• Trailing commas at the end of lines.
• Missing commas between attributes.
• Invalid structures.
