The Main Control Program (MCP) server for Autodesk Fusion 360, enabling remote control and automation of Fusion 360 operations.

This project implements a client-server architecture that allows external applications to interact with Fusion 360. The server acts as a bridge between the client and Fusion 360, supporting remote command execution and model information retrieval.

📦 Installation

Server and Client

1. Clone this repository or copy the files to your desired directory.
2. Ensure Python 3.6+ is installed.
3. No additional Python packages are required as the implementation uses only standard library modules.

Fusion 360 Add-on

1. In Fusion 360, go to the "Scripts and Add-Ins" dialog (press Shift+S or find it under "Tools" in the "Design" workspace).
2. Click on the "Add-Ins" tab, then click the "+" icon next to "My Add-Ins".
3. Browse to the location of the add-on file and select the folder containing fusion360_mcp_addon.py.
4. Click "Run" to start the add-on, or "Run on Startup" to load it automatically when Fusion 360 starts.

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

Start the Server

1. Open a command prompt or terminal.
2. Navigate to the directory containing the server file.
3. Run the following command to start the server:

python server.py

By default, the server will listen on 127.0.0.1:8080. You can modify the host and port in the code.

Connect Fusion 360 to the Server

1. Start Fusion 360 and ensure the MCP add-on is running.
2. In Fusion 360, find the "MCP Control" panel.
3. Click the "Connect to MCP Server" button.
4. Enter the server host and port, then click OK.
5. If successful, you will see a confirmation message.

Use the Client

You can use the provided client to connect to the server and interact with Fusion 360:

🔧 Technical Details

Communication Protocol

The server and client communicate via a simple JSON-based protocol, involving the following different message types:

• Request: Commands or data sent by the client to the server.
• Response: Feedback from the server to the client's request.
• Event: Notification of an event sent by the server to the client.

Expansion

To extend the project's functionality, you can follow these steps:

1. Add New Message Types: Define new message types in the protocol and implement the handling logic in the server and client.
2. Expand the Command Set: Add more commands to interface with the Fusion 360 API.
3. Enhance Security: Implement authentication and encryption mechanisms to ensure secure communication.
