This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Spotify integration, allowing AI assistants (such as Claude) to control and interact with their Spotify accounts.

The Spotify MCP Server enables AI assistants to interact with Spotify accounts. It provides a set of MCP tools for various operations on Spotify, including searching playlists, controlling playback, and managing playlists.

This project is built based on the Model Context Protocol and the zmb3/spotify Golang SDK.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context for large language models (LLMs). It allows LLMs like Claude to interact with external systems and data sources in a secure and standardized way.

MCP is like the USB - C port for AI applications—it connects AI models to different data sources and tools in a standard way. This project implements a Spotify server that adheres to the MCP specification, enabling AI assistants to control and interact with their Spotify accounts.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

1. Go 1.18 or higher.
2. A Spotify account (you need Spotify Premium for playback control).
3. Spotify developer credentials.

Obtain Spotify API Credentials

1. Visit the Spotify Developer Dashboard.
2. Log in with your Spotify account.
3. Click "Create an App".
4. Fill in the application name and description.
5. After creation, you will see your Client ID and can view your Client Secret.
6. Set the redirect URI to http://127.0.0.1:1690/callback.

Usage with Claude

To use this server with Claude for Desktop:

1. Open Claude for Desktop.

2. Create or update your MCP configuration file located at:

   • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

3. Add the following configuration:

5. The first time you use the Spotify tools, you need to authenticate via the spotify_login tool.

• play: Start or resume playback on your Spotify account.
• pause: Pause playback on your Spotify account.
• next_track: Skip to the next track in the current playback queue.
• previous_track: Go back to the previous track in the current playback queue.
• shuffle: Toggle the shuffle mode on your Spotify account.
• current_track: Get information about the currently playing track.
• get_queue: Get the current playback queue.
• get_current_playlist: Get the currently playing playlist.

Playlist Management

• create_playlist: Create a new playlist.
• add_to_playlist: Add tracks to a playlist.
• remove_from_playlist: Remove tracks from a playlist.
• delete_playlist: Delete a playlist.
• get_playlists: Get all available playlists.
