Koreandict MCP Server

This is a TypeScript package that converts the open API of the National Institute of the Korean Language Standard Korean Dictionary into an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. It enables large language models (LLMs) like Claude and ChatGPT to access and utilize Korean dictionary information.

MCP Resources

• koreandict://word/{word}: Provides word query results.
• koreandict://pos/{pos}/word/{word}: Provides word query results by part - of - speech.

MCP Tools

• search-word: Searches for words, allowing you to specify the search method and the number of results.
• search-by-pos: Searches for words by part - of - speech.

📦 Installation

You can install the package globally or locally via NPM:

# Global installation
npm install -g koreandict-mcp-server

# Installation in a project
npm install koreandict-mcp-server

Configuration

Before running the server, you need to obtain an API key from the National Institute of the Korean Language and set it up. There are two optional methods:

Method 1: Using environment variables

Create a .env file and add the key:

KOREANDICT_API_KEY=your-api-key-here

Method 2: Using the MCP configuration file

Create a mcp.json file with the following content:

This configuration file can be placed in the current directory or ~/.cursor/mcp.json.

Usage

Direct run

After global installation, you can start the server via the command line:

koreandict-mcp-server

Usage in a program

After installing the package in your project, you can import and use it in your code:

Usage in an MCP client

When using it in an MCP client (such as Cursor), you need to add the server information to the client's MCP configuration. Usually, you need to modify the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file:

Development

Clone the repository

Troubleshooting

If you encounter MCP connection errors, please check:

1. Whether the API key is set correctly.
2. Whether the path of the mcp.json file is correct.
3. Check the error information in the logs.
