🚀 Building an Unauthenticated Remote MCP Server on Cloudflare

This example demonstrates how to create an unauthenticated remote MCP server on Cloudflare Workers.

🚀 Quick Start

📦 Installation

# Clone the repository
git clone git@github.com:cloudflare/ai.git

# Navigate to the project directory
cd ai/demos/remote-mcp-authless/

# Install dependencies
pnpm install

# Deploy your worker
pnpm run deploy

Your MCP server will be deployed to a URL similar to this: remote-mcp-server-authless.your-account.workers.dev/sse

# Run locally
npm run dev

You can access the server at http://localhost:8787/sse.

💻 Usage Examples

Connecting to the Cloudflare AI Playground

You can connect to your MCP server from Cloudflare's AI Playground, which serves as a remote MCP client:

1. Go to https://playground.ai.cloudflare.com/.
2. Enter the URL of your deployed MCP server (worker-name.account-name.workers.dev/sse).
3. Now you can use your MCP tools directly from the playground without any authentication!

Connecting Claude Desktop to Your MCP Server

Follow Anthropic's Quick Start Guide, and in Claude Desktop, go to Settings > Developer > Edit Configuration.

Update it to the following configuration:
