The Outlook MCP Server is designed to offer access to Microsoft Outlook's email capabilities. It enables Large Language Models (LLMs) and other MCP clients to interact with Outlook emails via a standardized interface.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Windows operating system.
• Python 3.10 or higher.
• Microsoft Outlook installed and configured with a valid account.
• Claude Desktop or other MCP-compatible clients installed.

Steps

1. Clone or download this repository.
2. Install the required dependencies:

pip install mcp>=1.2.0 pywin32>=305

3. Configure Claude Desktop (or your preferred MCP client) to use this server.

Usage

Starting the Server

You can start the server directly:

python outlook_mcp_server.py

Or allow MCP clients like Claude Desktop to start it through configuration.

Available Tools

The server provides the following tools:

1. list_folders: List all available email folders in Outlook.
2. list_recent_emails: Display recent email titles within a specified number of days.
3. search_emails: Search for emails by contact name or keywords.
4. get_email_by_number: Retrieve detailed content of a specific email.
5. reply_to_email_by_number: Reply to a specific email.
6. compose_email: Create and send a new email.

Example Workflow

1. Use list_folders to view all available email folders.
2. Use list_recent_emails to view recent emails (e.g., in the past 7 days).
3. Use search_emails to search for emails with specific keywords.
4. Use get_email_by_number to view the full content of an email.
5. Use reply_to_email_by_number to reply to an email.

Composing a New Email

Send an email with the subject "Meeting Agenda", the recipient "john.doe@example.com", and the body "This is the agenda for our next meeting..."

Troubleshooting

• Connection Issues: Ensure that Outlook is running and configured correctly.
• Permission Errors: Ensure that the script has permission to access Outlook.
• Search Issues: For complex searches, try using the OR operator between keywords.
• Email Access Errors: Check if the mailbox ID is valid and accessible.
• Server Crashes: Check the connection and stability of Outlook.

Security Considerations

This server can access your Outlook email account and read, send, and manage emails. Use it only with trusted MCP clients and in a secure environment.

Limitations

• Currently only supports plain text emails (does not support HTML).
• The maximum email history is 30 days.
• The search function relies on Outlook's built-in search function.
• Only supports basic email functions (no calendar, contacts, etc.).
