The Brex MCP Server serves as a bridge between AI agents and the Brex financial platform, allowing agents to:

• Retrieve account information and transactions
• Access expense data and receipts
• Manage budget resources and spending limits
• View team information

This server implements standard resource handlers and tools compliant with the MCP specification, providing secure and efficient access to financial data.

⚠️ Important Note

Expense resources automatically expand merchant and budget information to display human-readable names instead of IDs.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Node.js (version 14 or higher recommended)
• npm (version 6 or higher recommended)

Setup Steps

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/yourusername/brex-mcp-server.git
   cd brex-mcp-server
   

2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   

3. Configure environment variables:

   • Create a .env file and add the following content:

     PORT=3000
     API_KEY=your_api_key_here
     DATABASE_URL=your_database_url_here
     

4. Start the development server:

   npm run dev
   

5. Build and deploy:

   npm run build
   npm start
   

Integration with Claude Configuration

To use this server with Claude configuration, follow these steps:

1. Add the details of the MCP server to the Claude configuration.
2. After configuration is complete, start the Claude agent to begin interacting with the Brex MCP server.

Debugging Tips

Since the MCP server communicates via standard input/output, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using MCP Inspector for debugging.

Security Precautions

This server implements the following security measures:

• Performs read-only operations on sensitive financial resources
• Does not store API credentials in the code
• Implements rate limiting to control API requests
• Properly handles errors and logs them
