What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open protocol introduced by Anthropic, standardizing the communication between large language models and their external tools or resources. MCP servers empower AI agents (such as Cline) to access more features, including web search, file operations, API integration, and database access.

What is the MCP Marketplace?

The MCP Marketplace is a curated collection of MCP servers for easy discovery and installation. Through the marketplace, you can:

1. Browse MCP servers created by the official team and the community.
2. Search by name, category, tags, and other metadata.
3. Install MCP servers with a single click, triggering Cline to automatically handle cloning, setup, and configuration.

How to Submit Your MCP Server

1. Create a new issue in this mcp-marketplace repository New Issue.
2. Include the following information in the issue:
   • GitHub Repository URL: The direct link to your MCP server repository (nested links like the example https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/servers/tree/main/src/github are also acceptable).
   • Logo Image: A 400×400 PNG file that will serve as your server's icon.
   • Reason for Submission: Briefly explain why your server is awesome or how it can benefit other Cline users.
3. Confirm that you have tested providing only your README.md and/or llms-install.md to Cline and observed its successful server setup. This helps prevent rejections due to our inability to set up your server using Cline.

That's it! Our team will review your submission. Once approved, we will add your MCP server to the official marketplace list, making it discoverable for Cline users.

Making Your MCP Server One-Click Installable

When Cline attempts to install your MCP server, it will try to use your README.md to guide the setup process. While most MCP servers provide sufficient installation instructions in the README, you can offer additional guidance by adding an llms-install.md file to your repository to assist agents like Cline. This is particularly useful when dealing with complex setups that require specific environment configurations or API keys.

FAQ

1. Do I have to create an llms-install.md file? No! If the README contains clear installation instructions, it is usually sufficient. Cline has a good ability to interpret standard README files. The llms-install.md file is optional and used for handling complex setups or when you want to provide additional guidance.
2. Can I submit new MCP servers even if they don't have many stars? Absolutely! Although we have a review process to ensure the security and stability of the MCP ecosystem.
3. How long does the approval process take? Our goal is to review your submission within just a few days. If your submission is approved, it will be available in the marketplace shortly.
