What is the Scryfall MCP service?
This is a service that provides Magic: The Gathering (MTG) card queries through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The backend is connected to the official Scryfall API. Users can directly query detailed card information through MCP - supported clients such as Claude. How to use it?
After installation and configuration, send query instructions in an MCP - supported client (such as Claude Desktop) to obtain card data. There is no need to directly call the API or write code.Applicable scenarios
MTG - related scenarios such as card collection management, deck building reference, game rule query, and card market price tracking.Main features
Search by namePerform precise/fuzzy searches by the full or partial name of the card
Filter by colorQuery by card color combinations (white/blue/black/red/green/colorless)
Search by typeFilter results according to card types (creature, spell, enchantment, etc.)
Text searchSearch for keywords in the card effect description text
Price informationProvide market prices in US dollars/euros (regular/foil versions)
Advantages and limitations
Advantages
No need to directly handle the complex parameters of the Scryfall API
Query can be made through natural language (e.g., 'Show blue dragon - type creatures')
Return complete and structured card information that is easy to read
Automatically handle API rate limits and error retries
Limitations
Dependent on MCP clients (such as Claude Desktop)
Advanced search syntax needs to be learned
Unable to modify the original Scryfall data
How to use
Installation preparation
Ensure that Python 3.12+ and the uv tool (cargo install uv) are installed
Create a virtual environment
Initialize a Python virtual environment in the project directory
Install dependencies
Install all Python dependency packages required by the project
Configure the MCP client
Add server settings to the Claude configuration file (actual paths need to be replaced)
