🚀 Financial Datasets MCP Server

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides stock market data from Financial Datasets. It enables Claude and other AI assistants to directly access income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, stock prices, and market news through the MCP interface.

The MCP server allows Claude and other AI assistants to access various financial data directly. You can try asking Claude questions like:

• "What is Apple's latest income statement?"
• "Show the current price of Tesla's stock."
• "Get the historical prices of MSFT from 2024-01-01 to 2024-12-31."

• get_balance_sheets: Retrieve a company's balance sheet.
• get_cash_flow_statements: Retrieve a company's cash flow statement.
• get_current_stock_price: Retrieve a company's current/latest stock price.
• get_historical_stock_prices: Retrieve a company's historical stock prices.
• get_company_news: Retrieve a company's news.
• get_available_crypto_tickers: Retrieve all available cryptocurrency trading pairs.
• get_crypto_prices: Retrieve the historical prices of cryptocurrencies.
• get_historical_crypto_prices: Retrieve the historical prices of cryptocurrencies.
• get_current_crypto_price: Retrieve the current/latest price of a cryptocurrency.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.10 or higher
• uv package manager

Installation Steps

1. Clone this repository:

   git clone https://github.com/financial-datasets/mcp-server
   cd mcp-server
   

2. Install uv if it's not already installed:

   # macOS/Linux
   curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh
   
   # Windows
   curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | powershell
   

3. Install dependencies:

   # Create a virtual environment and activate it
   uv venv
   source .venv/bin/activate  # On Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate
   
   # Install dependencies
   uv add "mcp[cli]" httpx  # On Windows: uv add mcp[cli] httpx
   

4. Set environment variables:

   # Copy the example file and configure the API key
   cp .env.example .env
   
   # Set the API key in the .env file
   FINANCIAL_DATASETS_API_KEY=your-financial-datasets-api-key
   

5. Run the server:

   uv run server.py
   

📚 Documentation

Configure Claude Desktop

1. Download and install Claude Desktop if you haven't already.

2. Create or edit the Claude Desktop configuration file:

   # macOS
   mkdir -p ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/
   nano ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
   

3. Add the following configuration:

   }
   

   Replace /path/to/uv with the output of which uv, and replace /absolute/path/to/financial-datasets-mcp with the absolute path of this project.

4. Restart Claude Desktop.

5. You should now be able to see the financial tools in the Claude Desktop tool menu (hammer icon).

6. You can try asking Claude the following questions:

   • “What is Apple's latest income statement?”
   • “Show the current price of Tesla's stock.”
   • “Get the historical prices of MSFT from 2024-01-01 to 2024-12-31.”
