🚀 Amazon Cognito MCP Server

This is a server implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which connects to AWS Cognito for authentication and user management. It offers a set of tools to handle user authentication processes, including registration, login, and password management.

Prerequisites

• An AWS account with a configured Cognito user pool.
• Node.js 18 or higher.

📦 Installation

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/yourusername/mcp-server-aws-cognito.git

# Install dependencies
cd mcp-server-aws-cognito
npm install

# Build the server
npm run build

AWS Cognito Configuration

1. Log in to the AWS console and navigate to Amazon Cognito.
2. Create a new user pool or use an existing one.
3. Note down your user pool ID and application client ID.
4. Set these values as environment variables or in the .env file (the .env file is only required when using Claude code, not Claude desktop):

AWS_COGNITO_USER_POOL_ID=your-user-pool-id
AWS_COGNITO_USER_POOL_CLIENT_ID=your-app-client-id

Basic Usage

The server provides a series of tools for user authentication. Here is a list of available tools:

The Inspector will provide a URL in your browser to access the debugging tools.

Using with Claude Desktop

Before using, make sure Node.js is installed on your desktop so that npx works properly.

1. Go to: Settings > Developer > Edit Configuration.
2. Add the following to claude_desktop_config.json:

Using with Claude Code

Claude Code is the command-line interface of Claude. To use this MCP server with Claude Code:

1. Install Claude Code following the instructions in the Claude Code documentation.
2. Add the MCP server to Claude Code:

claude mcp add "aws-cognito-mcp" npx tsx index.ts

3. Verify that it has been added:

claude mcp list

4. Run Claude with your MCP server:

claude

Development

For development with automatic rebuild:

npm run watch

Debugging

Since the MCP server communicates via stdio, debugging can be challenging. Use the MCP Inspector for better visibility:

npm run inspector

Now you can use the AWS Cognito authentication tools with Claude!
