An MCP server for the Giphy API that enables AI models to search for, retrieve, and use GIFs from Giphy.

The Giphy GIF MCP Server allows AI models to interact with the Giphy API. You can install it via Smithery or manually.

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

1. Visit Smithery.
2. Search for and select the mcp-server-giphy project.
3. Click the "Deploy" button and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Manual Installation

1. Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/magarcia/mcp-server-giphy.git

2. Install dependencies:

cd mcp-server-giphy
npm install

3. Start the server:

npm start

💻 Usage Examples

Tools

1. search_gifs

• Search for GIFs on Giphy using a query string.
• Input:
  • query (string): Search query term or phrase.
  • limit (optional number): Maximum number of objects to return (default: 10, maximum: 50).
  • offset (optional number): Result offset (default: 0).
  • rating (optional string): Content rating (g, pg, pg-13, r).
  • lang (optional string): Language code (default: en).
• Returns: An array of GIF objects with metadata.

2. get_random_gif

• Get a random GIF from Giphy, optionally filtered by a tag.
• Input:
  • tag (optional string): Tag to limit random results.
  • rating (optional string): Content rating (g, pg, pg-13, r).
• Returns: A random GIF object with metadata.

3. get_trending_gifs

• Get currently trending GIFs on Giphy.
• Input:
  • limit (optional number): Maximum number of objects to return (default: 10, maximum: 50).
  • offset (optional number): Result offset (default: 0).
• Returns: An array of trending GIF objects with metadata.
