What is the MCP GameBoy Server?

This is a server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) that allows large language models (LLMs) to interact with the GameBoy emulator. Through this server, you can control the GameBoy emulator, load game ROMs, and view the game screen, just like playing games on a real GameBoy.

How to use the MCP GameBoy Server?

You can use this server in multiple ways: 1) Automatically install it to Claude Desktop via Smithery. 2) Manually add it in FLUJO. 3) Manually install and run it through the command line. The server provides two control methods: a Web interface and an MCP client.

Applicable scenarios

This server is very suitable for: 1) Developers to test the interaction ability between LLMs and game emulators. 2) Educational scenarios to demonstrate how AI understands games. 3) Game AI research. 4) Adding game entertainment functions to LLMs.

Main features

Load ROMSupports loading various GameBoy game ROM files
Key controlSimulates all key operations of the GameBoy (up, down, left, right, A/B keys, start/select keys)
Screen viewingObtains the GameBoy screen image in real - time
Frame skipping functionCan skip a specified number of game frames

Advantages and limitations

Advantages
Supports multiple installation methods, including one - click installation
Provides two control methods: a Web interface and an MCP client
All operations will return the current game screen, making it easy for LLMs to understand the game state
Supports two transmission modes (stdio and SSE)
Limitations
The ROM path requires an absolute path, which is not very friendly to beginners
Requires manual configuration of the.env file
Currently only supports GameBoy games

How to use

Install via Smithery (recommended)
The simplest one - click installation method, suitable for Claude Desktop users
Install in FLUJO
1. Click Add Server. 2. Copy the Github URL to FLUJO. 3. Click Parse, Clone, Install, Build, and Save.
Manual installation
Clone the repository, install dependencies, and build the project
Configure environment variables
Create a.env file and set the ROM path (Note: an absolute path is required)
Run the server
Choose to run in stdio mode or SSE mode

Usage examples

Play the Pokemon gameLet the LLM control the character to move and fight in the Pokemon game
Test the game AITest the LLM's ability to understand and react to the game state
