What is MCP-Server?

MCP-Server is a specially designed backend service that implements the Model Context Protocol standard, allowing AI assistants (such as LM Studio) to securely interact with your local data files. It's like an intelligent data steward that helps AI understand the contents of CSV and Parquet files on your computer without directly accessing sensitive data.

How to use MCP-Server?

Just install and configure it once, and your AI assistant can automatically access data files through MCP-Server. When you ask questions about data files, the AI will call the server functions through a secure protocol to obtain file summaries and information, and then reply to you in natural language.

Applicable scenarios

Suitable for data analysts and researchers who need to quickly understand the contents of data files, or ordinary users who want to query data information in natural language. No need to write complex code, just simple conversations can provide data insights.

Main Features

Intelligent Summary of CSV Files
Automatically read CSV files and provide clear content summaries, including column names, data types, and sample data
Parquet File Analysis
Supports Parquet format files and provides an overview of the file structure and data
Secure Data Access
Ensures the security of data access through the standard MCP protocol. AI can only access data through defined interfaces
Seamless AI Integration
Designed specifically for AI platforms such as LM Studio, with simple configuration and easy to use
Advantages
Query data file information without programming experience
Protect data privacy. AI can only access permitted information
Support common data formats (CSV, Parquet)
Simple configuration, one-time setup for long-term use
Limitations
Currently mainly supports structured data files
Requires basic command-line operation knowledge for initial configuration
Relies on external AI platforms (such as LM Studio) as the interaction interface

How to Use

Install the uv Package Manager
uv is a fast Python package management tool. You need to install it first
Download the Project and Install Dependencies
Get the project code and install all necessary software packages
Configure LM Studio
Add server information to the mcp.json configuration file in LM Studio
Start Using
Restart LM Studio. Now you can directly ask questions about data files in natural language

Usage Examples

Quickly Understand the Contents of Data Files
When you receive a new data file but are not sure what's inside
Check the Basic Information of Data Files
Need to quickly confirm the size, structure, and basic statistical information of the file
