What is Atuin integration?

This is a bridge connecting Claude Code and Atuin. Atuin is a powerful cross-terminal bash history tool. Through this integration, commands executed by Claude will be automatically saved to your history, and Claude can also query and learn your past command patterns.

How to use Atuin integration?

After installation and configuration, the system will work automatically: Commands executed by Claude will be saved to the Atuin history, and Claude can also search your historical commands to provide more accurate suggestions.

Applicable scenarios

Suitable for developers and system administrators who often work in the terminal, as well as users who want Claude to better understand their workflow. Especially suitable for users who synchronize command history across multiple machines.

Main features

Bidirectional history synchronization
Commands executed by Claude are automatically saved to Atuin, and Claude can query your historical commands.
Complete metadata recording
Record the command execution time, working directory, exit code, and execution duration.
Cross-machine synchronization
If Atuin synchronization is enabled, the command history will be synchronized across all devices.
Context awareness
Claude can learn your command patterns and workflow to provide more relevant suggestions.
Persistent history
Re-run the commands executed by Claude from the terminal to maintain work continuity.
Advantages
Seamless integration - Works automatically after installation, no manual intervention required.
Improve efficiency - Claude can provide more accurate command suggestions based on your history.
Persistent history - No commands executed by Claude will be lost.
Cross-platform support - Supports history synchronization across multiple machines.
Privacy protection - All historical data is stored locally or in a synchronization service under your control.
Limitations
Requires Atuin and Bun to be installed as pre - dependencies.
Only supports bash command history, not other shells.
Requires Claude Code environment support.
Initial configuration requires several steps.

How to use

Install pre - dependencies
Ensure that Atuin and Bun are installed in the system. Atuin is responsible for history management, and Bun is used to run the integration script.
Configure the write hook
Add a PostToolUse hook in the Claude Code settings to automatically save commands executed by Claude to the Atuin history.
Configure the MCP server
Add MCP server configuration to allow Claude to read and search your command history.
Restart and verify
Restart Claude Code and execute some commands to verify that the integration is working properly.

Usage examples

Command history retrieval
When you forget the specific parameters of a complex command, Claude can help you find the previously successfully used command by searching the history.
Workflow learning
Claude analyzes your historical command patterns, understands your work habits, and provides command suggestions that better suit your style.
Cross - session continuity
In different sessions, Claude can provide a continuous development experience based on previously executed commands.
