What is Kiteworks MCP Server?
Kiteworks MCP Server is a secure connection tool that allows AI assistants (such as Claude) to securely access and manage your files, folders, and user information in the Kiteworks enterprise file management system. Through the standardized Model Context Protocol, AI can help you upload and download files, create folders, and browse the directory structure while maintaining enterprise-level security standards. How to use Kiteworks MCP Server?
The usage process is divided into three simple steps: first, create an OAuth application in the Kiteworks management background; then, run a one-time authentication setup; finally, configure your AI client connection. The entire process uses secure OAuth 2.0 authentication, and your credentials will be securely stored in the system key vault.Applicable scenarios
Suitable for various scenarios where AI assistants are needed to assist with enterprise file management: document organization, batch file operations, intelligent file search, automated file processing workflows, etc. Particularly suitable for scenarios where sensitive enterprise files need to be securely processed.Main features
File management
Securely upload and download files, obtain file metadata information, and support operations on various file types
Folder operations
Browse the folder hierarchy, create new folders, and manage the folder organizational structure
User information
Obtain detailed information about the current user, verify the authentication status, and ensure operation permissions
OAuth 2.0 security authentication
Enterprise-level security authentication, supporting automatic token refresh, and credentials are securely stored in the system key vault
Cross-platform support
Natively supports Windows, Linux, and macOS systems, and provides binary files for the corresponding platforms
Rate limit protection
Built-in request frequency limit to prevent overuse of the API and protect system stability
Advantages
Enterprise-level security: OAuth 2.0 authentication, secure storage of credentials, and TLS certificate verification
Convenient operation: AI assistants can operate files using natural language without a complex interface
Cross-platform compatibility: Supports mainstream operating systems and is easy to deploy
Permission control: Based on the existing Kiteworks permission system, no additional configuration is required
Automation support: Supports batch file operations to improve work efficiency
Limitations
Requires Kiteworks administrator permissions to create an OAuth application
Depends on third-party AI clients supporting the MCP protocol
The Linux system requires GNOME Keyring support
Self-signed certificates require additional configuration
Access to absolute paths requires special permission settings
How to use
Create an OAuth application
Create a custom OAuth application in the Kiteworks management background. Ensure that the authorization code flow and refresh token are enabled, set the redirect URI to http://localhost:9999/callback, and assign read and write permissions for Files, Folders, and Users.
Download and install the MCP server
Download the corresponding Kiteworks MCP Server binary file according to your operating system. It is recommended to place it in an easily accessible directory.
Initial setup and authentication
Run the setup command to complete one-time OAuth authentication. The system will automatically open the browser to complete the authorization process.
Configure the AI client
Add the MCP server configuration according to the AI client you are using (Claude Desktop, VS Code, etc.).
Start using
Restart the AI client. Now you can interact with the Kiteworks file system using natural language.
Usage examples
File browsing and search
Quickly browse the file structure in Kiteworks and find specific files or folders
Batch file upload
Upload multiple local files to the specified Kiteworks folder at once
Folder management
Create, organize, and arrange the folder structure in Kiteworks
File download and management
Download files from Kiteworks to the local for viewing or editing
