What is the Branch Monkey MCP Server?

The Branch Monkey MCP server is a bridge that connects Claude Code (Claude's code editor) with the Branch Monkey task management platform. It allows you to directly manage tasks, track progress, and collaborate with your team while writing code, eliminating the need to switch between applications.

How to Use the Branch Monkey MCP Server?

Simply add a few lines of configuration to the Claude Code configuration file, restart the editor, log in and authorize through the browser, and you're ready to start using it. All task management functions can be invoked via natural language commands.

Use Cases

Suitable for development teams to synchronously manage development tasks, record work logs, collaborate with team members, and associate AI-generated code with specific tasks while writing code.

Main Features

Browser Authorization without Keys
No complex API key configuration is required. You can use it after logging in to Branch Monkey through the browser and authorizing the device, which simplifies the initial setup process.
Complete Task Management
Supports creating, updating, deleting, and searching tasks, as well as managing the complete workflow such as starting work, recording progress, and completing tasks.
Team Collaboration
View team members, add members to projects, and achieve task assignment and progress synchronization among teams.
Project Management
List all projects, set the current focus project, and switch between different projects to keep the work context clear.
Prompt Tracking
Associate the code and prompts generated by Claude with specific tasks to facilitate tracing the work records assisted by AI.
Automatic Task Resume
Automatically detect relevant incomplete tasks based on the current work content and intelligently resume the work context.
Advantages
Zero-configuration authorization: No need to manually obtain and configure API keys
Seamless integration: Manage tasks directly in the code editor without switching applications
Automated workflow: Automatically associate code changes with task progress
Team-friendly: Supports multi-person collaboration and task sharing
Context preservation: Intelligently resume and associate relevant tasks
Limitations
Network-dependent: Requires a connection to the Branch Monkey cloud service
Limited to Claude Code: Currently mainly supports the Claude editor environment
Browser required for initial setup: The browser is required to complete the authorization process for the first use

How to Use

Installation and Configuration
Add the Branch Monkey MCP server configuration to the .mcp.json configuration file in the Claude Code project.
Restart and Authorization
Restart Claude Code. The browser will automatically open for the first use. Log in to Branch Monkey and authorize the current device.
Select a Project
Use monkey_project_list to view available projects, and then use monkey_project_focus to set the current working project.
Start Using
Now you can use all task management commands, such as creating tasks, recording progress, and completing tasks.

Usage Examples

Create a Task When Developing a New Feature
Create a corresponding development task before starting to write code for a new feature to ensure that the work can be traced.
Record Progress When Fixing a Bug
