What is the WordPress Trac MCP Server?

This is a server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) that allows AI assistants to directly access the Trac issue tracking systems of various projects in the WordPress ecosystem. Trac is the official tool used by the WordPress community to track bug reports, feature requests, and development tasks. Through this MCP server, you can directly query, search for, and obtain real-time information related to WordPress development in AI conversations.

How to use the WordPress Trac MCP Server?

It's very simple to use: just add the corresponding server URL to your AI assistant's configuration without writing any code. It supports mainstream AI assistants such as Claude Desktop and ChatGPT. After configuration, you can directly ask questions about WordPress development in the conversation, and the AI will automatically obtain the latest information from the corresponding Trac instance.

Use cases

Suitable for WordPress developers, theme/plugin authors, contributors, and anyone who needs to know the status of WordPress development. This tool is especially useful when you need to find the status of a specific bug, search for relevant development discussions, understand version release plans, or view the code change history.

Main features

Multi-instance support
Supports 7 different WordPress Trac instances: Core, Meta, Plugins, Themes, bbPress, BuddyPress, and GlotPress. Each instance has independent deployment and configuration.
Ticket search
Supports keyword search for tickets and can filter results by relevance, time, and other conditions. The AI assistant can help you find relevant discussions on specific topics or issues.
Ticket details view
Get detailed information through the ticket number, including metadata such as title, description, status, priority, component, and milestone.
Changeset view
View code changes for a specific revision and understand the specific modifications made in each commit.
Timeline query
Get activity records within a specific time period to understand the recent dynamics and progress of the project.
Project information retrieval
Query basic information about the project, such as milestones, version plans, and component lists.
Advantages
No coding required: Ordinary users can use it by simply configuring the URL without a technical background
Real-time data: Obtain the latest information directly from the official Trac instance
Multi-platform support: Compatible with mainstream AI assistants such as Claude Desktop and ChatGPT
Edge deployment: Globally deployed on Cloudflare Workers for fast access
Open source and free: Based on the GPL license, it can be used completely for free
No authentication required: Uses the public API without the need for login or an API key
Limitations
Comment history unavailable: The CSV API does not include the complete comment history. You need to visit the web page to view the full discussion
Limited component list: Component values need to be extracted through sampled tickets and may be incomplete
Instance separation: Each Trac instance is independently deployed and needs to be configured separately
Dependent on the public API: The functionality is limited by the capabilities of the CSV/RSS endpoints provided by Trac
No real-time push: You need to actively query to obtain information, and real-time notifications are not supported

How to use

Select your AI assistant
Select the corresponding configuration method according to the AI assistant you use. Currently supports Claude Desktop and ChatGPT.
Configure the MCP server
For Claude Desktop users: Edit the configuration file and add the corresponding server configuration. For ChatGPT users: Add a remote MCP server in the settings.
Restart the application
After saving the configuration, restart your AI assistant application for the changes to take effect.
Start using
Directly ask questions about WordPress development in the AI conversation, and the AI will automatically use the configured Trac server to obtain information.

Usage examples
