What is Local LTM?

Local LTM is a long-term memory system based on Mem0 and the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It allows AI assistants (such as Claude) to store and manage persistent knowledge locally, including user preferences, important facts, conversation history, etc., enabling AI to remember key information and recall these memories in subsequent conversations.

How to use Local LTM?

Through the integration with Claude Desktop, you only need to configure it once, and the AI assistant can automatically use the memory function. The system provides four core operations: storing memories, searching memories, updating memories, and deleting memories. All operations are automatically completed in the background.

Use cases

Suitable for scenarios where AI needs to remember long-term information such as user preferences, project details, important decisions, and learning progress. It is particularly suitable for applications such as long-term project collaboration, personalized assistants, knowledge management, and learning partners.

Main features

Intelligent memory storage
Supports three types of memories: episodic memory (events and experiences), semantic memory (facts and knowledge), and procedural memory (preferences and rules), allowing AI to classify and store different types of information.
Namespace management
Uses hierarchical namespaces to organize memories, such as /shared/user_preferences, /agents/{agent_id}/private/heuristics, facilitating classification and retrieval.
Semantic search
Performs intelligent searches based on the meaning of the content, rather than just keyword matching, and can find relevant memories with different expressions.
Seamless integration with Claude
Seamlessly integrates with Claude Desktop through the MCP protocol. After configuration, all memory functions can be used in Claude.
Local operation
Memory data is managed locally, and professional memory services are provided through the Mem0 API, balancing local control and service quality.
Advantages
Enhance AI personalization: Let AI remember user preferences and habits, providing more considerate services
Maintain conversation consistency: Maintain information continuity between different conversations
Reduce duplicate information: Users do not need to provide the same information repeatedly
Flexible storage structure: Supports multiple memory types and namespaces
Easy to integrate: Seamlessly connect with Claude Desktop
Limitations
Requires a Mem0 API key: Depends on third-party services
Initial configuration steps: Manual configuration of Claude Desktop is required
Learning cost: Understanding of memory classification and namespace concepts is required
Storage decision: Judgment is needed on which information is worth storing in the long term

How to use

Get an API key
Visit the Mem0 official website (https://app.mem0.ai) to register and obtain an API key.
Install and configure
Clone the project and install the dependencies. Set your Mem0 API key in the.env file.
Configure Claude Desktop
Edit the Claude Desktop configuration file according to your operating system and add the MCP server configuration.
Restart and test
Restart Claude Desktop, and the system will automatically load the memory tool. You can verify the installation through a test script.

Usage examples

Remember user preferences
When the user expresses preferences, the AI can automatically store this information to provide more user - habit - compliant answers in future conversations.
Project information management
In long - term project collaboration, the AI can remember project details, decision records, and progress information.
Learning progress tracking
For learning scenarios, the AI can remember the user's learning progress, weak points, and mastered knowledge points.
