📦 Installation

Installation via Smithery

To automatically install the Markdown Downloader for Claude Desktop via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @dazeb/markdown-downloader --client claude

Manual Installation

1. Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/your-username/markdown-downloader.git
cd markdown-downloader

2. Install dependencies:

npm install

3. Build the project:

npm run build

Basic Usage

1. Set the Download Directory

Change the download directory:

use set_download_directory /path/to/your/local/download/folder

• Verify that the directory exists and is writable.
• Persist the configuration for future use.

2. Download Markdown

Download a web page as a Markdown file:

use tool download_markdown https://example.com/blog-post

• The URL will automatically have the r.jina.ai prefix added.
• Filename format: {sanitized-url}-{date}.md.
• Save to the configured download directory.

3. List Downloaded Files

List all downloaded Markdown files:

use list_downloaded_files

4. Get the Download Directory

Retrieve the current download directory:

use get_download_directory

Configuration

• Configuration is stored in ~/.config/markdown-downloader/config.json.
• Default download directory: ~/.markdown-downloads.

Troubleshooting

• Ensure you have an active internet connection.
• Check that the URL is valid and accessible.
• Verify the write permissions of the download directory.

Security

• This tool uses the r.jina.ai service to obtain Markdown content.
• Local files are saved with sanitized names.
