🚀 Minecraft MCP Server

A Minecraft bot powered by large language models and the Mineflayer API. This bot enables Claude and other supported models to control a Minecraft character through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

⚠️ Important Compatibility Warning: As of March 25, 2025, Minecraft 1.21.5 has just been released. This bot is currently incompatible with Minecraft 1.21.5. Please use Minecraft 1.21.4 until we release an update supporting 1.21.5.

✨ Prerequisites

• Node.js
• A running Minecraft game (The following settings were tested with Minecraft 1.21.4 Java Edition included in the Microsoft Game Pass).
• Claude Desktop

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

This bot is designed to be used with Claude Desktop via the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Run Minecraft

Create a single-player world and open it to LAN (ESC -> Open to LAN). The bot will attempt to connect to port 25565 and hostname localhost. These parameters can be configured in claude_desktop_config.json in the next step.

MCP Configuration

Ensure Claude Desktop is installed. Open File -> Settings -> Developer -> Edit Configuration, which should open the installation directory. Find the file named claude_desktop_config.json and insert the following code:

Check if the --port and --host parameters are used correctly. Make sure to completely restart the Claude Desktop application (it should be closed in the operating system tray).

Advanced Usage

Ensure the Minecraft game is running and the world is open to LAN. Then start the Claude Desktop application, and the bot should join the game.

It may take some time for Claude Desktop to start the MCP server. The successful startup of the server is indicated by a hammer icon appearing next to the chat.

You can send commands to the bot through any active Claude Desktop chat. You can also upload images of buildings and have the bot build them 😁

Don't forget to mention that the bot should perform certain actions in Minecraft, as this is the trigger for running the MCP server. It will ask for your permission.

Using Claude 3.7 Sonnet may yield some interesting results. The bot agent will be very smart 🫡
