🚀 YouTube Translate MCP Server

A server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for accessing the YouTube translation API. It supports obtaining subtitles, translating content, generating subtitle files, and creating video summaries.

📦 Installation

Install via Smithery

Automatically install youtube-translate-mcp via Smithery to run on Claude Desktop:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @brianshin22/youtube_translate_mcp --client claude

Manual Installation

This package requires Python 3.12 or higher:

# Using uv (recommended)
uv pip install youtube_translate_mcp

# Using pip
pip install youtube_translate_mcp

Or install from source:

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/yourusername/youtube_translate_mcp.git
cd youtube_translate_mcp

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

Run the server:

# Using stdio transport (default)
YOUTUBE_TRANSLATE_API_KEY=your_api_key youtube_translate_mcp

# Using SSE transport
YOUTUBE_TRANSLATE_API_KEY=your_api_key youtube_translate_mcp --transport sse --port 8000

Docker Deployment

You can also run the server using Docker:

# Build the Docker image
docker build -t youtube_translate_mcp .

# Run with stdio transport
docker run -e YOUTUBE_TRANSLATE_API_KEY=your_api_key youtube_translate_mcp

# Run with SSE transport
docker run -p 8000:8000 -e YOUTUBE_TRANSLATE_API_KEY=your_api_key youtube_translate_mcp --transport sse

Environment Variables

• YOUTUBE_TRANSLATE_API_KEY: Required. The API key for accessing the YouTube translation API.

Deployment with Smithery

This package includes a smithery.yaml file, which facilitates deployment using Smithery.

Debug Information

• As of March 13, 2025, the MCP checker has a short timeout for calls. It is recommended to view MCP logs on Claude Desktop, located at ~/Library/Logs/Claude/mcp-server-{asfasf}.log.
• You can view the logs in real - time by executing the command tail -f {log-file}.log.
