A server based on Model Context Protocol (MCP) for integrating RootData API, providing data query functions for cryptocurrency and blockchain projects.

Available MCP Tools

This server offers the following MCP tools:

• search: Search for brief information about projects/VCs/persons based on keywords.
• get_project: Retrieve detailed information about a project using its project ID.
• get_organization: Obtain detailed information about a venture capital institution using its institution ID.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.10 or higher.
• uv package manager (recommended).

Installation Guide

1. Clone this repository:

git clone https://github.com/jincai/rootdata-mcp-server
cd rootdata-mcp-server

2. If you haven't installed uv, you can install it:

# macOS/Linux
curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

# Windows
curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | powershell

3. Install dependencies:

# Create and activate a virtual environment
uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # On Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate

# Install dependencies
uv add "mcp[cli]" httpx python-dotenv

4. Set environment variables:

# Create a .env file to store the API key
cp .env.example .env

# Set the API key in the .env file
ROOTDATA_API_KEY=your-rootdata-api-key

5. Run the server:

uv run server.py

💻 Usage Examples

Connecting with Claude Desktop

1. Install Claude Desktop (if you haven't already).
2. Create or edit the Claude Desktop configuration file:

mkdir -p ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/
nano ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

3. Add the following configuration:

Replace /path/to/uv with the result of which uv, and replace /absolute/path/to/rootdata-mcp-server with the absolute path of this project. 4. Restart Claude Desktop. 5. You should now see the RootData tools in the Claude Desktop tool menu (hammer icon). 6. Try asking Claude questions, for example:

• "Search for projects related to Ethereum."
• "Get detailed information about the project with ID 12."
• "Query information about the venture capital institution with ID 219."
