Qgis MCP

🚀 QGISMCP - QGIS Model Context Protocol Integration

QGISMCP connects QGIS to Claude AI via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling Claude to directly interact with and control QGIS. This integration allows for features such as prompt-assisted project creation, layer loading, and code execution.

This project is strongly based on the BlenderMCP project by Siddharth Ahuja

• Layer Operations: Adds or removes vector or raster layers to the project.
• Execute Processing Tools: Runs processing algorithms (Processing Toolbox).
• Code Execution: Runs arbitrary Python code in QGIS. This is a very powerful tool, but use it with caution.

📦 Components

The system consists of two main components:

1. QGIS Plugin: A QGIS plugin that creates a socket server to receive and execute commands in QGIS.
2. MCP Server: A Python server that implements the Model Context Protocol and connects to the QGIS plugin.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• QGIS 3.X (tested only on 3.22)
• Cloud desktop
• Python 3.10 or higher
• uv package manager:

If using a Mac, install uv as follows:

brew install uv

In Windows Powershell:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"

QGIS Plugin Installation

To install the QGIS plugin, you can:

1. Use the QGIS official plugin library to search for and install "qgis-mcp".
2. Or compile and install from the source code.

💻 Usage Examples

Command List

The following is a list of available commands and their brief descriptions:

• ping: Checks the connection status.
• create_new_project: Creates a new project and saves it at the specified path.
• load_vector_layer: Loads a vector layer and specifies a name.
• load_raster_layer: Loads a raster layer and specifies a name.
• get_layers: Gets all layers in the current project.
• remove_layer: Removes a layer by ID.
• zoom_to_layer: Zooms to the extent of the specified layer.
• execute_processing: Executes a processing algorithm and specifies parameters.
• save_project: Saves the current project to the specified path.
• render_map: Renders the current map view and saves it as an image file.
• execute_code: Executes arbitrary PyQGIS code.

Basic Usage

1. Use ping to check the connection status. If successful, proceed to the next step.
2. Create a new project and save it at the path "C:/Users/USER/GitHub/qgis_mcp/data/cdmx.qgz".
3. Load a vector layer: "C:/Users/

⚠️ Important Note

The "execute_code" command allows running arbitrary PyQGIS code, which is very powerful but also risky. Use it with caution.

💡 Usage Tip

Before using other commands, it's recommended to use the "ping" command to check the connection status to ensure smooth communication between Claude AI and QGIS.
