🚀 File Finder MCP Service

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server written in Python that can integrate with the Cline extension in VSCode. The server searches for files in the file system based on file path fragments and returns the results in JSON format.

📦 Installation

System Requirements

• Python 3.9 or higher
• Python package mcp (install via pip install mcp)
• VSCode with the Cline extension installed

Steps

1. Clone this repository:

   git clone https://github.com/kyan9400/file-finder-mcp.git
   cd file-finder-mcp
   

2. Install the required Python packages:

   pip install mcp
   

3. Update Cline's configuration file to enable the MCP server:

   • Open or create the Cline configuration file (e.g., C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Code\User\cline_config.json on Windows).
   • Add the following configuration:

💻 Usage Examples

Starting the Server

Manually start the server for testing:

python file_finder_server.py

Cline will also start it automatically when using the tool.

Testing with Cline

1. Open VSCode with the Cline extension installed.
2. Use the following query in the Cline interface to test the server:

   Find files in the file system containing the fragment "test"
   

3. Cline will call the find_files tool, and you will see the results returned in JSON format, for example:

📚 Documentation

Notes

• The search starts from the current working directory where the server is launched.
• The search is case-insensitive.
• File sizes are displayed in bytes, and creation dates are in ISO format.
