🚀 Alpaca MCP Server

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed for Alpaca, enabling large language models (LLLMs) like Claude to interact with Alpaca's trading API. It supports stock trading, position viewing, market data retrieval, and account management—all through natural language.

📦 Prerequisites

• Python 3.10 or higher.
• Alpaca API credentials.
• Claude for Desktop or other MCP clients.

📦 Installation

1. Clone this repository:

   git clone https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/alpaca-mcp.git
   cd alpaca-mcp
   

2. Install the required packages:

   pip install mcp alpaca-py python-dotenv
   

3. Create a .env file containing your Alpaca API credentials:

   API_KEY_ID=your_alpaca_api_key
   API_SECRET_KEY=your_alpaca_secret_key

Basic Usage

Run the Server

Start the server by running the following command:

python alpaca_mcp_server.py

Configure Claude for Desktop

1. Open Claude for Desktop.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Click "Developer", then click "Edit Configuration".
4. Add the server configuration to claude_desktop_config.json:

5. Save and restart Claude for Desktop.

Advanced Usage

The server provides the following tools:

• get_account_info() - Get account balance and status.
• get_positions() - List current positions.
• get_stock_quote(symbol) - Get the latest quote for a stock.
• get_stock_bars(symbol, days) - Get historical price data for a specified stock.
• get_orders(status, limit) - Get a list of orders with a specified status.
• place_market_order(symbol, side, quantity) - Place a market order.
• place_limit_order(symbol, side, quantity, limit_price) - Place a limit order.
• cancel_all_orders() - Cancel all open orders.
• close_all_positions(cancel_orders) - Close all positions.

Example Queries

Once the server is connected to Claude, you can ask the following questions:

• Check my account balance.
• List all my current positions.
• Get the real-time quote for Apple stock.
• Place a market order to buy Google stock.

⚠️ Important Note

• By default, the server uses a paper trading environment. Refer to the relevant documentation if you want to switch to live trading.
• Handle your API credentials with care to ensure account security.
