An MCP server for accessing and managing ledger files via Claude.

This is an MCP server that enables access and management of ledger files through Claude. It provides several useful tools for ledger management.

Tools

The server implements three tools for ledger management:

• list-accounts: Lists all accounts in the ledger.

  • Requires the "year" as a mandatory parameter.
  • Returns a formatted list of all available accounts.

• account-balance: Retrieves the balance of a specific account.

  • Requires both "year" and "account" as mandatory parameters.
  • Returns the current balance of the specified account.

• account-register: Displays the transaction details of an account.

  • Requires both "year" and "account" as mandatory parameters.
  • Returns the detailed transaction history of the specified account.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.13 or higher
• uv package manager
• Node.js and npm (for debugging)

Installation via PyPI

uv pip install ledger-service

💻 Usage Examples

Debugging

Use the inspector to debug the server:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector \
  uv \
  --directory /path/to/ledger-service \
  run \
  ledger-service

Configuring Claude Desktop

Add the server configuration to the Claude Desktop configuration file:

• On MacOS: ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
• On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Local Setup for Development

1. Clone the repository.
2. Create and activate a virtual environment.
3. Install dependencies.

You can configure the base path by modifying the LEDGER_BASE_PATH constant in server.py.
