This project implements a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for interacting with the Beeminder API.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context to Large Language Models (LLMs). It's like the "USB-C port" for AI applications, offering a standard way to connect different data sources and tools.

The MCP uses a client-server architecture:

• MCP Host: Such as Claude Desktop or an IDE, which wants to access data via MCP.
• MCP Client: A protocol client that maintains a 1:1 connection with the server.
• MCP Server: A lightweight program that provides specific functionality through a standard protocol.
• Local Data Sources: Files, databases, and services on a computer that the MCP server can access securely.
• Remote Services: External systems that can be connected to via the Internet.

What is Beeminder?

Beeminder is a tool for overcoming akrasia by combining:

• Self-quantified tracking.
• A "Bright Red Line" (BRL) feedback mechanism that shows the commitment path.
• Increased financial risk upon failure.
• Flexible commitments with a 7-day "akrasia cycle".

This server implementation provides MCP-compatible access to the Beeminder API, allowing AI assistants to help users manage Beeminder goals, data points, and related functions.

This server provides access to the core functions of Beeminder, including:

• Goal management (Create, Read, Update, Delete).
• Data point management (Create, Read, Delete).
• User information retrieval.
• Support for all Beeminder goal types:
  • More action ("hustler").
  • Calculator ("biker").
  • Weight loss ("fatloser").
  • Weight gain ("gainer").
  • Less inbox ("inboxer").
  • Less drinking ("drinker").

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

You need a Beeminder API key and username to run the server. To get your API key:

1. Log in to Beeminder.
2. Go to https://www.beeminder.com/api/v1/auth_token.json.

You also need to install uv. Check the uv documentation for installation instructions. You can use other tools, but you'll need to change the command in the claude_desktop_config.json file.

Manual Installation

1. Clone this repository.
2. Add the following to your claude_desktop_config.json file:

• On MacOS: ~/Library/Application\ 支持/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
• On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

3. Install and open the Claude Desktop app.
4. Try having Claude perform read/write operations to confirm the setup (e.g., list your Beeminder goals). If there are issues, use the debugging tools provided in the MCP documentation here.
