Excel MCP Server is a server that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and is used to read and write Microsoft Excel data.

📦 Installation

Install via NPM

excel-mcp-server will automatically add the following configuration to the MCP server configuration.

🛠️ Tools

read_sheet_names

List all worksheet names in an Excel file.

Parameters:

• fileAbsolutePath
  • The absolute path of the Excel file.

read_sheet_data

Read data from an Excel worksheet by pagination.

Parameters:

• fileAbsolutePath
  • The absolute path of the Excel file.
• sheetName
  • The name of the worksheet in the Excel file.
• range
  • The range of the Excel worksheet to read (e.g., "A1:B2").
• By default, if no range is specified, it will start reading from the first cell by pagination.

read_sheet_data_with_range

Read data from a specified range in an Excel worksheet by pagination.

Parameters:

• fileAbsolutePath
  • The absolute path of the Excel file.
• sheetName
  • The name of the worksheet in the Excel file.
• startRow
  • The starting row number to read.
• endRow
  • The ending row number to read.
• A maximum of 4000 cells can be read each time.

read_sheet_formula

Read formulas from an Excel worksheet by pagination.

Parameters:

• fileAbsolutePath
  • The absolute path of the Excel file.
• sheetName
  • The name of the worksheet in the Excel file.

write_sheet_data

Write data to an Excel worksheet.

Parameters:

• fileAbsolutePath
  • The absolute path of the Excel file.
• sheetName
  • The name of the worksheet in the Excel file.
• data
  • The data to be written (e.g., {A1: "value"}).

write_sheet_formula

Write formulas to an Excel worksheet.

Parameters:

• fileAbsolutePath
  • The absolute path of the Excel file.
• sheetName
  • The name of the worksheet in the Excel file.
• formula
  • The formula to be written (e.g., {A1: "=A2+B2"}).

⚙️ Configuration

You can change the behavior of the MCP server through the following environment variables:

EXCEL_MCP_PAGING_CELLS_LIMIT

The maximum number of cells to read in each pagination operation. [Default value: 4000]
