An MCP protocol server that provides web search functionality and supports MCP clients such as Claude Desktop.

🚀 Quick Start

The MCP Edge Search Server is designed to work with MCP clients (e.g., Claude Desktop), allowing AI assistants to perform web searches and retrieve information. Here's how to get started:

Prerequisites

• Python 3.7 or higher
• MCP library (v1.2.0 or higher)
• Requests library
• BeautifulSoup4 library

Installation

1. Clone or download this repository.
2. Install the required dependencies:

pip install -r requirements.txt

Usage

Run as an MCP Server

When using it with an MCP client like Claude Desktop:

python edge_search_server.py

After the server starts, wait for the MCP client to connect.

Test Mode

To test the search function without an MCP client:

python edge_search_server.py --test --query "Your search keyword"

To test web content retrieval:

python edge_search_server.py --test --url "https://example.com"

Integration with Claude Desktop

To use this server with Claude Desktop:

1. Create or edit the Claude Desktop configuration file:
   • Location: %AppData%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
2. Add the following configuration:

Replace C:/path/to/python.exe with the actual path to the Python executable, and C:/path/to/mcp-edge-search with the actual path to this repository. 3. Restart Claude Desktop. 4. Click the "Enable Web Search" button.

Troubleshooting

Server Disconnection Error

If you see a "Server disconnected" error in Claude Desktop:

1. Check the error messages in the edge_search.log file.
2. Ensure that all dependencies are installed correctly.
3. Try running the server in test mode to verify functionality.
4. Confirm that the paths in the Claude Desktop configuration file are correct.

JSON Configuration Error

If Claude Desktop displays an invalid JSON error:

1. Ensure that the configuration file is in the correct format.
2. Use forward slashes (/) instead of backslashes (\).
3. Verify the correctness of the Python executable path.
