🚀 Google Logging MCP Server

This project provides a way to obtain project - related log information using the gcloud CLI, with specific requirements and limitations.

🚀 Quick Start

Prerequisites

• Be able to use the gcloud CLI.
• Be logged in to a gcloud account.
• Have IAM permissions.

Requirements

• Return in YAML format --> --format yaml.
• Log content should be basic and necessary information (queries can be adjusted).
  • Content, resource names, timestamps.
• Startup parameters:
  • Project ID.

Background of Obtaining Logs

Problem

How to obtain project - related log information? Under different contexts such as YS4B, Mujin, and detached buildings, the log output methods and domain knowledge vary. How to reflect these differences?

Ideas

• a. Set the MCP Server of gcloud logging as a resource so that it can be retrieved.
  • In this case, the MCP Server needs to have certain business knowledge as a prerequisite --> This is acceptable.
  • Content: Knowledge such as database architecture, logs, and query techniques.
• b. Create a dedicated MCP Server for obtaining other domain knowledge.
  • Decoupling is an advantage, but management may become complicated.

First, try option a by setting the MCP Server as a retrievable resource.

Resources

• OCPP - related:
  • Transactions, status, connection status.
• Service - related:
  • Reservations.
  • Usage logs.
  • Administrators.

Limitations

• Unable to perform filtering similar to a SELECT statement.

gcloud Features

Log Reading and Display

• 🔵 gcloud logging read - Retrieve matching log entries based on specified filtering conditions. Conditions can be set according to resource type, timestamp, log level (severity), etc., and even complex filtering can be performed by combining AND, OR.
• The output format can be adjusted to JSON or tabular form, etc., through the standard options of gcloud.

Real - Time Log Monitoring

• ❌ gcloud logging tail - Can track log writing in real - time.

Log Listing and Management

• gcloud logging logs list - List all logs within a project.
• ❌ gcloud logging logs delete - Can delete unnecessary logs. Note that this operation is irreversible.

Log Bucket Management

• gcloud logging buckets list - Display the list of buckets where logs are stored.
• gcloud logging buckets describe / update - View detailed information of each bucket or adjust settings such as retention periods.

Log Export Management

• gcloud logging sinks list - Display the list of destinations (export targets) for automatically exporting logs to external locations such as Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and Pub/Sub.
• gcloud logging sinks create / update / delete - Create new export sinks, modify settings of existing export sinks, or delete unnecessary export sinks.

Log - Based Metric Management

• gcloud logging metrics list - List all metrics created based on logs.
• gcloud logging metrics create / update / delete - Create, modify, or delete metrics based on specific log conditions.
• These metrics can be used for monitoring and setting up alert triggers.

Running the Server

The server can be run in two ways:

node -- /path/to/mcp-server-google-logging/dist/index.js --project=<project-id>
