🚀 mcp-searxng

mcp-searxng is an MCP server implemented based on the SSE (Server-Sent Events) protocol. It mainly provides web search and content scraping capabilities through the SearXNG search engine. Users can extend search functionality by configuring different search engine URLs.

Installation

Install Dependencies

1. Install the Python environment:

python -m pip install --upgrade pip
pip install "uvicorn>=0.25.0"
pip install "httpx>=0.26.0"

2. Install Node.js and npm:

# Download and install nvm:
curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvm-sh/nvm/v0.40.2/install.sh | bash

# Load nvm in the shell:
source ~/.nvm/nvm.sh

# Install Node.js version 22:
nvm install 22

# Verify that Node.js and npm are installed successfully:
node -v # Should output "v22.14.0"
npm -v # Should output "10.9.2"

Run the Project

1. Start the MCP server using Docker:

docker build -t mcp-searxng .
docker run -d --env SEARXNG_URL=http://localhost:8888 -p 5488:5488 mcp-searxng

2. Run directly using the command line:

uvicorn server:app --host 0.0.0.0 --port 5488

Verify the Results

1. Install and start the MCP Inspector:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector

# Open a browser and visit http://localhost:5173

2. Perform the following operations in the MCP Inspector:
   • Select SSE as the transport type.
   • Enter the MCP server address: http://localhost:5488/sse.
   • Click "Connect" to verify successful connection.
   • Switch to the "Tools" tab and click the "List Tools" button to view available tools:
     • web_search: Used for keyword search.
     • web_url_read: Used for web content scraping.
