🚀 MCP Server for SearXNG n8n Integration

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed specifically for integrating SearXNG with n8n workflows.

🚀 Quick Start

💻 Usage in n8n

1. Prerequisites:

   • A running n8n instance.
   • Access to a SearXNG instance (e.g., https://your-searxng-instance.com).
   • The n8n-nodes-mcp package installed in your n8n instance.

2. Configure the MCP Node (Server Connection):

   • Add an "MCP" node to your workflow.
   • In the node settings, under the Server Connection section:
     • Command: npx
     • Arguments for npx: -y mcp-server-searxng-n8n --instance=https://your-searxng-instance.com
       • Replace https://your-searxng-instance.com with your actual SearXNG URL.
     • Environment Variables: (Leave blank)

3. Configure the MCP Node (Tool Operations):

   • Still in the MCP node settings, under the Operations section:
     • Tool Name: Select search from the dropdown menu.
     • Tool Parameters (JSON Object): Enter a JSON object containing search parameters. For example, use an n8n expression like {{ $json.chatInput }} as a value.

📋 Available Search Parameters (Tool Parameter JSON)

The search tool supports the following parameters (only q is required):

• q (Required): Search query string
• categories: Comma-separated list of search categories
• engines: Comma-separated list of search engines to use
• language: Language code for the search
• time_range: Time range for the results (day, month, year)
• safesearch: Safe search level (0: None, 1: Moderate, 2: Strict)
• image_proxy: Enable image proxy to return images via SearXNG
• enabled_plugins: Comma-separated list of enabled plugins
• disabled_plugins: Comma-separated list of disabled plugins
• enabled_engines: Comma-separated list of enabled search engines
• disabled_engines: Comma-separated list of disabled search engines
• format: Output format (json, csv, rss, html). Default is json.

Test using the following command:

# Note the use of double dashes `--` to pass parameters to the script via npm start
npm start -- --instance=https://your-searxng-instance.com
