This is a "version" focused on providing web browsing functionality from the Claude application. It is derived from the Model Context Protocol and Anthropic's original MCP project. You can find instructions for using this application in these READMEs and licenses.

Perplexity Ask MCP Server

An MCP server implementation integrating the Sonar API, providing Claude with unparalleled real-time global web research capabilities.

  • Conduct real-time conversations with Claude using the Sonar API for online searches.
  • Input:
    • messages (array): An array of conversation messages.
      • Each message must contain:
        • role (string): The role of the message (e.g., system, user, assistant).
        • content (string): The content of the message.

📦 Installation

Step 1: Clone the Repository

Clone this repository:

git clone git@github.com:rascal-3/MCP-servers.git

Navigate to the perplexity-ask directory and install the necessary dependencies:

cd servers/src/perplexity-ask && npm install

Step 2: Obtain the Sonar API Key

1. Sign up at Sonar API Account.
2. Generate an API key according to the account settings instructions.
3. Set the key as the environment variable PERPLEXITY_API_KEY.

Step 3: Configure Claude Desktop

1. Download the Claude desktop version here.
2. Add the following content to claude_desktop_config.json:

You can access the file with the following command:

vim ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Step 4: Build the Docker Image

Build the Docker image:

docker build -t [your-docker-hub-account]/perplexity-ask:latest -f Dockerfile .

Step 5: Testing

Run the container:

docker image ls
docker run -it [your-container-image-id]

Please ensure that Claude Desktop detects the two tools exposed in our perplexity-ask server. You can check by clicking the hammer icon:

If you see these two tools, it means the integration is working. Congratulations! Now Claude can use Perplexity Ask. You can use it directly just like the Perplexity web application.

Step 6: Advanced Parameters

The current search parameters are set to default values. You can modify these parameters anywhere in the API call. For example:

• Adjust --limit to control the number of returned results.
• Use --skip_cache to disable result caching.
• Set --time_range to limit the search time range.
