This is an MCP server that connects to the Context7 API, acting as an intermediate bridge.

Tools

• c7_query

  • Description: Query specific topics in a specified project.
  • Parameters (object):
    • projectname (string, required): The exact name of the project (e.g., nextjs).
    • query (string, required): The topic or question to query.
    • format (enum: "txt" | "json", optional, default: "txt"): The output format.
    • tokens (number, optional): The maximum number of tokens in the response.
  • Returns: Text content (plain text or JSON string) containing the Context7 results.

• c7_search

  • Description: Search for available Context7 projects based on keywords.
  • Parameters (object):
    • term (string, required): The keyword to search for in the project titles.
  • Returns: An array of JSON strings containing matching projects, each with a title and a name (the usable project name).

• c7_info

  • Description: Display the metadata of a specific Context7 project.
  • Parameters (object):
    • projectname (string, required): The exact name of the project.
  • Returns: Text content in JSON string format containing the full metadata of the project.

  • Description: Provide a list of all available and valid Context7 projects.
  • Returns: Content with mimeType: "application/json", an array of JSON strings containing matching projects.

📦 Installation

Method 1: Install from npm

npm install c7-mcp-server

Method 2: Install from source code

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone [Repository URL]
   

2. Install dependencies:

   npm install
   # Or use bun
   bun install

Basic Usage

Configure the client (using Claude Desktop as an example). Create or modify the config.json file in the project root directory and add the following content:

🚧 Development

Step-by-step Guide

1. Clone the repository.
