This is an MCP protocol server that uses the Tavily API to implement web search functionality.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.11+
• UV package manager
• Tavily API key

Steps

1. Clone the repository

git clone <repository-url>
cd mcp2tavily

2. Create and edit the .env file

# Create the .env file
touch .env
# Add your Tavily API key to the .env file
echo "TAVILY_API_KEY=your_api_key_here" > .env

3. Set up a virtual environment using UV

# Create and activate the virtual environment
uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # On Windows, use: .venv\Scripts\activate

4. Install dependencies

uv sync

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

Install as a Claude extension

fastmcp install mcp2tavily.py

Development testing with MCP Inspector

fastmcp dev mcp2tavily.py

After running, you can access the MCP Inspector at: http://localhost:5173

Advanced Usage

The server provides the following available tools:

• search_web(query: str): Search the web using the Tavily API.
• search_web_info(query: str): Same as above, with Chinese descriptions.
