🚀 Remote Deployment of MCP Server on Cloudflare

Let's launch a remote MCP server on Cloudflare Workers and integrate OAuth login functionality!

🚀 Quick Start

💻 Local Development

# Clone the repository
git clone git@github.com:cloudflare/ai.git

# Install dependencies
cd ai
npm install

# Start the local service
npx nx dev remote-mcp-server

You should be able to open http://localhost:8787/ in your browser.

📦 Connect MCP Inspector to Your Server

To explore the new MCP API, you can use MCP Inspector.

• Start it with the command npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector.
• In the Inspector, switch the transport type to SSE, enter http://localhost:8787/sse in the URL field, and then click "Connect".
• You'll enter a simulated login interface. Enter any email and password to complete the login.
• After successful login, you can list and call any defined tools in the MCP Inspector!

💻 Connect Claude Desktop to the Local MCP Server

To enable Claude to use this MCP server, you need to modify Claude's configuration file. Follow Anthropic's quick - start guide, go to Settings > Developer > Edit Configuration in Claude Desktop to find your configuration file. Open the file with a text editor and replace its content with the following:

In this way, Claude will communicate with your MCP server through a local proxy. After starting Claude, a browser window will open, prompting you to log in. After completing the login, you can see a list of available tools in the bottom - right corner. Enter appropriate instructions as prompted, and Claude will call the corresponding tools to perform tasks.

🚀 Deployment to Cloudflare

1. npx wrangler kv namespace create OAUTH_KV
2. Add the KV namespace ID to the wrangler.jsonc file as prompted.
3. Execute the command npm run deploy to complete the deployment.

📦 Call the Newly Deployed Server from a Remote MCP Client

After successful deployment, you can use the new MCP server through the following steps:

1. Update your configuration file to point to the correct URL and credentials.
2. Use the corresponding tools or scripts to interact with the newly deployed MCP server.

🔧 Debugging

The following commands can help you with debugging:

# Restart the service
npx nx dev remote-mcp-server

# Clear the cache
rm -rf node_modules && npm install
