Bloomberg MCP

🚀 BLPAPI-MCP Server

An MCP server that provides financial data from Bloomberg's blpapi.

⚠️ Important Note

To run this project, you need to have access to a Bloomberg Terminal (BBComm must be accessible) for data retrieval.

📦 Installation

Using UV

uv add git+https://github.com/djsamseng/blpapi-mcp

Starting the MCP Server

uv run blpapi-mcp --sse --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8000

💻 Usage Examples

Using blpapi-mcp with Cursor

• For a project: Create a .cursor/mcp.json file in the project directory.
• Globally: Create ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
• Replace the host and port with the running MCP server above.

Using blpapi-mcp with Claude Code

• Replace the URL with the running MCP server above.

claud mcp add --transport sse blpapi-mcp http://127.0.0.1:8000/sse

• Remote hosting for Claude Desktop is still under development

🔧 Development

Requirements

1. Install UV

curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

2. Clone this repository

git clone https://github.com/djsamseng/blpapi-mcp

3. Set up a virtual environment

uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate

4. Run the MCP server

uv run blpapi-mcp --sse --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8000

5. Run a test client to start its own console mode server

uv run examples/clients/blp_stdio_client.py

6. Run a test client that uses an existing running SSE server

uv run examples/clients/blp_sse_client.py --host http://127.0.0.1 --port 8000
