Prerequisites

• Python 3.10 or higher
• A Google Cloud project with the Search Console API enabled
• Service account credentials with Search Console access

Install from PyPI

pip install mcp-server-google-search-console

Install from source

cd mcp-server-google-search-console
pip install -e .

Search Console API Call

To call the Google Search Console API, follow these steps:

1. Install dependencies

pip install google-api-python-client google-auth_oauthlib

2. Configure the project

Create a config.py file:

from google.oauth2 import service_account

# Load service account credentials
credential_path = os.path.join(os.getcwd(), "service-account.json")
credentials = service_account.Credentials.from_service_account_file(
    credential_path, scopes=["https://www.googleapis.com/auth/searchconsole"])

3. Create an MCP server

Development Environment Setup (uv)

This project uses uv for faster package management and installation.

Install uv and uvx

First, install uv and uvx:

pip install uv uvx

Create and manage virtual environments

To create a new virtual environment:

uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate  # Linux/macOS
.venv\Scripts\activate     # Windows

Install dependencies

After cloning the repository, install the dependencies:

git clone https://github.com/yourusername/mcp-server-google-search-console.git
cd mcp-server-google-search-console
pip install -e .

To install the MCP package separately:

pip install "mcp[cli]"

Install development dependencies

To install additional development tools, run:

pip install -e ".[dev]"

Authentication Setup

Obtain Google Search Console API credentials:

1. Visit Google Cloud Console
2. Create a new project or select an existing one
3. Enable the API:
   • Go to "APIs & Services" > "Library"
4. Create a service account with Search Console access and download the JSON credentials file

Release Process

This project is automatically published to PyPI when a GitHub release tag is created.

To release a new version:

1. Run the version update script:

   python scripts/bump_version.py [major|minor|patch]
   

2. Follow the displayed instructions to push to GitHub:

   git add pyproject.toml
   git commit -m "Bump version to x.y.z"
   git tag vx.y.z
   git push origin main vx.y.z
   

3. Create a new release on the GitHub repository page:

   • Select the tag: vx.y.z
   • Enter the title: vx.y.z
   • Fill in the release notes
   • Click "Publish"

4. GitHub Actions will be triggered and automatically publish the package to PyPI.
