A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects to the Domo API.

The Domo MCP Server is a tool that allows you to connect to the Domo API. It enables you to interact with Domo datasets, obtain metadata, and execute SQL queries.

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.11+
• A Domo instance with:
  • A developer access token
  • Access to datasets that can be queried

Setup Steps

1. Clone this repository.
2. Create and activate a virtual environment (recommended):

   python -m venv .venv
   source .venv/bin/activate  # On Windows: .venv\Scripts\activate
   

3. Install the dependencies:

   pip install -r mcp requests dotenv
   

4. Create a .env file in the root directory with the following variables:

   DOMO_HOST=your-domo-instance.domo.com
   DOMO_DEVELOPER_TOKEN=your-personal-access-token
   

5. Test the connection (optional but recommended):

   python test_connection.py
   

Obtaining a Domo Developer Token

Follow these steps to generate an access token.

💻 Usage Examples

Running the Server

Start the MCP server:

python domo.py

You can test this MCP server using the inspector by running:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector python3 domo.py

Available MCP Tools

The following MCP tools are available:

1. get_dataset_metadata(dataset_id: str) - Get the metadata of a dataset.
2. get_dataset_schema(dataset_id: str) - Get the schema of a dataset.
3. query_dataset(dataset_id: str, query: str) - Query a dataset using SQL.
4. search_datasets(query: str) - Search for datasets by name to get their IDs.

Example Usage (Combined with LLM)

When used in combination with an LLM that supports the MCP protocol, this server allows you to interact with your Domo environment through natural language:

• "How many orders with critical priority are there in my Example Sales dataset?"
• "Who owns the Customer Invoice dataset?"
• "Show the logs of the Activity Log dataset in the past 3 hours."

Troubleshooting

Connection Issues

• Ensure that the Domo host is correct and does not include the https:// prefix.
• Verify that the personal access token has the necessary permissions and has not expired.
• Run the included test script: python test_connection.py.

Security Considerations

• Your Domo developer token provides direct access to your instance.
• Ensure that the .env file is secure and never committed to version control.
• Run this server in a secure environment.
