A lightweight Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enables AI assistants like Claude to access and interpret real-time weather data.

📦 Installation

Install on Claude Desktop

To use your MCP server with Claude Desktop, add it to the Claude configuration:

1. Local Mode

You can obtain an API key from WeatherAPI.

Build from Source Code

You can build the binary using go in the cmd/github-mcp-server directory.

go build -o weather-mcp-server ./cmd/weather-mcp-server

Use Docker Container

1. Build the Docker Image:

docker build -t weather-mcp-server .

2. Run the Docker Container:

docker run -e WEATHER_API_KEY=your-api-key -d --name weather-mcp-server -p 8000:8000 weather-mcp-server

Replace your-api-key with your actual WeatherAPI API key.

Basic Usage

To use the weather API, follow these steps:

1. Prerequisites: Make sure Go is installed.
2. Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/TuanKiri/weather-mcp-server.git
cd weather-mcp-server

3. Install dependencies:

go mod tidy

4. Compile and run the server:

go run internal/server/server.go

🔧 Technical Details

Testing

If you add new features, make sure to include tests for them.

1. Install the mockgen tool:

go get github.com/golang/mock/mockgen/cmd/...

2. Run the following command in the project root directory to generate mock files:

mockgen -source internal/server/handlers/weather.go -package mocks > internal/server/mocks/weather.go
