🚀 MCP Server from Sourcegraph

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server integrated with Sourcegraph, providing code search and analysis capabilities for LLMs.

Sourcegraph Access Token

Before using any server tools, you need to generate an API access token.

1. Visit your Sourcegraph instance (e.g., https://sourcegraph.com).
2. Click on the profile icon in the top - right corner.
3. Navigate to Settings > Access Tokens.
4. Create a new token with appropriate scopes.
5. Copy the token and set it as an environment variable.

Environment Variables

The server uses two environment variables, which can be set in your local environment or the MCP server configuration.

• SRC_ACCESS_TOKEN: Your Sourcegraph access token (see above).
• SRC_ENDPOINT (optional): The URL of your Sourcegraph instance (default is https://sourcegraph.com).

📦 Installation

1. Build the server using TypeScript

yarn run build

2. Configure the MCP server

There are many MCP clients available. Here are some examples:

Installation Script

For convenience, an optional installation script is provided, which can automatically set up the correct configuration for Cursor. This script will guide you through setting up the Sourcegraph environment variables, so have your access token ready before you start.

./install_cursor.sh

3. Verify the installation

After completing the setup steps, confirm whether the server is correctly configured with your MCP client by prompting the client to use the testSourcegraphConnection tool.

💻 Available Tools

The server provides the following tools to the LLM:

1. testSourcegraphConnection: Test the connection to Sourcegraph and return version information.
2. search: Search for code in Sourcegraph and limit the number of results.
3. getFileContent: Retrieve the content of a file in a specific repository.
4. searchReactPropUsage: Search for code that uses specific properties of a specific React component in Sourcegraph.
