Ramp MCP

🚀 Ramp-MCP Server Setup

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for data retrieval, analysis, or task execution, leveraging Ramp's Developer API. To bypass token and input size limitations, this server implements a simple ETL pipeline + an in-memory temporary SQLite database for analysis, executed by a Large Language Model (LLM). All requests default to the demo environment but can be changed by setting RAMP_ENV=prd. Due to API and/or your MCP client limitations, large datasets may not be processed.

Tools

Database Tools

Tools for setting up, processing, querying, and deleting the in-memory temporary database:

1. process_data: Process data
2. execute_query: Execute queries
3. clear_table: Clear tables

Retrieval Tools

Tools for directly retrieving data:

1. get_ramp_categories: Get Ramp categories
2. get_currencies: Get currencies

Loading Tools

Load data into the server for clients to retrieve. Ensure you enable the corresponding scopes on your Ramp client and include these scopes as CLI parameters when starting the server, based on the tools you wish to use.

For large datasets, it is recommended to explicitly prompt Claude not to use REPL and keep responses concise to avoid timeouts or excessive token usage.

Setup

Ramp Setup

1. Create a new client from the Ramp developer page (Profile in the top right > Developers > Create App).
2. Grant the permissions (based on the tools) you wish to use to the client and enable client credentials (click on the app > Permissions/Scopes).
3. Include the client ID and secret in the configuration file, along with the permissions you wish to use.

Local Setup

1. Clone this GitHub repository using git clone git@github.com:ramp/ramp-mcp.git or similar.
2. Install uv.

Usage

Run the MCP server from your CLI:

RAMP_CLIENT_ID=... RAMP_CLIENT_SECRET=... RAMP_ENV=<demo|prd> uv run ramp-mcp -s <COMMA-SEPARATED-SCOPES>

If this file does not exist, create it in the /<ABSOLUTE-PATH-TO>/Library/Application Support/Claude/ directory.
